About the Project
Contemporary Emirati Majlis
A design for a spacious hospitality majlis that celebrates the tradition of Emirati generosity and presents it in a calm, contemporary language. Low seating runs the length of the walls in earthy tones with cushions woven in heritage patterns, and low stone tables at the center hold dallahs and cups for serving guests.
Arched niches with warm backlighting line the walls, displaying dallahs and brass lanterns around a central arch with a carved gypsum panel in a geometric pattern inspired by Arabic ornament. Above, a ceiling of wooden beams and woven palm infill is edged with concealed lighting that gives the majlis both warmth and presence.
